The Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel Sunday Brunch Jazz Oasis Restaurant The Wine Girl Cape Town

If you’re in Cape Town, a Sunday Brunch at the Mount Nelson Oasis restaurant is a must! Especially for the fact that this Sunday Brunch has an option for bottomless Cap Classique!

About the Mount Nelson Hotel

The Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel

If you’re familiar with Cape Town at all, you will recall a famous “pink hotel” lovingly referred to by locals as “The Nellie” which has become a very popular Instagram destination. This is the Mount Nelson hotel which is part of the Belmond group, known for its portfolio of luxury hotels and travel experiences worldwide.

This hotel was established in 1899 and was the first hotel in South Africa to offer hot and cold running water in every room, a luxury at the time! Mount Nelson boasts an elegant Victorian style with elements of Edwardian architecture, including its famous pink façade. This distinctive pink colour was chosen to celebrate the end of World War 1 and was considered to be warm and inviting, and it has stuck ever since! Throughout its history, the hotel has welcomed many famous guests, including John Lennon, Queen Elizabeth II, and Oprah Winfrey.

Sunday Brunch at the Oasis restaurant

Picture yourself enjoying a delicious buffet of food, sipping on bubbly, and vibing to live jazz music—all in the stunning setting of the Mount Nelson’s Oasis restaurant. Sounds like a perfect Sunday, right?

Sunday brunch is more than just a meal; it's an experience. From the moment you're welcomed by the ever-so-friendly staff to the end of your brunch, you will feel like royalty!

The decor is influenced by a 1920s, English Country Side manor house. Think woven chairs, botanical fabrics and Gatsby-influenced art-deco chandeliers. The restaurant overlooks the hotel’s garden and pool area, making it the perfect location to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

Cap Classique, Brunch Buffet, and All the Jazz Vibes

What’s to drink?

What's a Sunday brunch without a little sparkle? There’s an option for unlimited Cap Classique and I was pleased to see Boschendal on the list. There's nothing quite like sipping on a freshly topped-up glass of Cap Classique while enjoying a relaxed brunch. There’s also an endless supply of virgin Bloody Marys, Iced Teas, teas and coffees.

What’s to Eat?

Presented buffet style, there is possibly everything under the South African sun on display to choose from for a lekker Sunday Brunch. I started off with Oysters and Sushi, followed by salads, cheese, cold meats and bread. For Mains, I indulged in some Yorkshire pudding, steak and veggies. Then dessert was the perfect ending and I was absolutely blown away.

Each dish is beautifully presented and the flavours were world-class.

What’s the live Jazz all about?

Every Sunday, you can enjoy the sounds of a live jazz band - there’s just something so magical about this. I attended when the trumpet took centre stage and it transported me back to a time when this style of sophistication was the norm. It was anything but normal though, there was a sense of nostalgia and one does feel special to be part of this bespoke experience. The talent in Cape Town is super, let me tell you!

What about the kids?

Yes! There is an option for the kids! And for those with little ones, no worries! They've got a professionally supervised Children’s Club to keep them entertained while you kick back and enjoy your brunch. It’s a win-win situation—fun for the kids and a relaxed, worry-free experience for you.
