A Culinary Journey: The Seasonal Pairing Winter Menu
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Creation Wines, in a wine region of the Western Cape called Hemel-en-Aarde. This wine region is known for producing world-class Chardonnay and Pinot Noir so it is no wonder that ‘Hemel-en-Aarde’ means ‘Heaven and Earth’.
One of the highlights of my visit was indulging in Creation Wines' new Seasonal Pairing Winter Menu. This carefully curated menu showcases the perfect harmony between their exquisite wines and gourmet dishes, offering a sensory experience like no other.

Welcome: Creation Sauvignon Blanc - Minerality Rules!
To begin, we were greeted with a refreshing glass of Creation Sauvignon Blanc. Its crisp, mineral notes were the perfect complement to the velvety Watercress and Parsnip Soup, setting the stage for the culinary journey ahead.
Chapter 1: Creation Viognier - Vivaldi in a Glass
The first course featured the Creation Viognier, described as "Vivaldi in a Glass" for its harmonious and lively character. Paired with Agedashi Tofu, the Viognier's floral and fruity notes provided a delightful contrast to the delicate tofu dish. Never have I ever tasted tofu that was so delicious!
Chapter 2: Creation Reserve Chardonnay - Absolutely Brilliant Chardonnay
Next, we savored the Creation Reserve Chardonnay, an "Absolutely Brilliant Chardonnay" with rich, buttery undertones. And just look at these beautiful Riedel glasses! This wine was impeccably matched with a dish of Trout, Leeks, Wild Garlic, and Caviar, enhancing the flavours of the ocean and garden in perfect unison. You may notice a “shellphone” below. I thoroughly enjoyed holding it up to my ear as I sipped on the chardonnay. A sensorial experience for sure!
Chapter 3: Creation Reserve Pinot Noir - Red Velvet
The journey continued with the Creation Reserve Pinot Noir, aptly named "Red Velvet" for its smooth and luxurious texture. This was paired with Springbok, Celeriac, Peas, Goat’s Milk Cheese, and Jus, a dish that brought out the earthy and complex notes of the Pinot Noir.
Chapter 4: Creation Syrah, Grenache - Oh so Umami...
For the fourth course, the Creation Syrah, Grenache blend, known for its umami richness, was served alongside Bone Marrow, Broth, Capers, Lemon, and Cape Seed Loaf. The robust flavors of the wine and the umami-packed dish created a symphony of tastes that was both bold and satisfying.
Chapter 5: Creation Fine Cape Vintage - Sweet Temptation
The meal concluded on a sweet note with the Creation Fine Cape Vintage, dubbed "Sweet Temptation". Paired with a decadent Chocolate and Hazelnut Torte, accompanied by Coffee and Orange, this dessert wine was the perfect finale, leaving a lasting impression of sweetness and warmth.
