Wine farm number 16 is Wildekrans in Bot River.The drive to the estate is beautiful. You will pass trees, vineyards and spot wildlife such as birds. The wine tasting room is modern yet traditional.There is a great outdoor area where you can sit and enjoy your wine whilst the kids can run around and play on the jungle gym - all within eye shot.The tasting room is so warm and welcoming. The ladies that do the tasting are very tentative and make sure that everyone is happy.What I love about this tasting room is that there is one large table where strangers can meet over a good glass of wine. What's more is that they give you free olives to taste. There were so many olives, I think we polished an entire bottle. So fantastic to pair with the red wines.A number of their wines have won awards. They produce in small quantities as it is a family run wine estate.We were lucky enough to meet the owner on this day who was incredibly down to earth and welcoming.Just around the corner from the tasting room is what looks to me like a museum. Wines dating back to the 90's are on display.I also really enjoyed finding these old wine artifacts :)And of course, the old concrete wine vats. I believe many farms still use this method to ferment wine.The Wildekrans Brut Rosé MCC was my first tasting at the farm. Aged for 24 months on the lees, you can certainly taste strawberries, raspberries and cherries. It is a fine dry MCC with a good balance of acidity and sweetness.I enjoy a good Pinot Noir so I was glad to see that Wildekrans produced such a good one! As you can see, it has won numerous awards.This is the Wildekrans estate blend. A well priced everyday drinking wine. Unfortunately I do not have much info on the tasting notes or prices of these wines as they are freshly bottled and the wine maker is still going to send it to me. I will update this post when I get it.This was the first time that I have ever seen wine in PET bottles! It was only R20 each and looked good to take on a picnic so I bought two to give it a try.Now I wait for the warmer weather to go on a picnic :DIn case it gets chilly, there is a comfy fire place.The room next door to the tasting rooms looks good enough for a queen!I had a great time and enjoyed most of the wines.That was the end of my Spring Weekend journey in Bot River.I hope you will join me next year - the first weekend in September. Good for most groups of people (2-12 people).Suitable for children.Booking is not necessary. First come, first served.
