For some 20 years she identified and collected historical roses from cemeteries, mission villages and other hidden corners of the Cape Province before establishing the first rose garden on Boschendal Farm. These heritage roses were then sold at the annual ‘Boschendal Rose Sale’ which later became an institution.Jan’s focus on Boschendal is to integrate agriculture into beautiful and sustainable landscaping and he and his team have continued to restore and upgrade the original garden over the years.The programme includes a tour with Jan and rose enthusiast, Cathy Esterman where you can find out more about the Heritage Roses and modern varieties growing within the garden, as well as how this important part of Boschendal’s history is cared for.Once you have viewed the roses, guests will enjoy a talk by Cathy Esterman and High Tea prepared by Executive Chef Christiaan Campbell in the picturesque gardens.Roses will be on sale and visitors will be able to place orders for specific varieties to be propagated in future.
