Diemersfontein is probably one of the most down-to-earth and family-orientated corporate wineries in South Africa. Their work culture is something to be really proud of. For three generations, since 1947, the Sonnenberg family has been uplifting the Wellington community by not only creating jobs but also empowering the locals with training and education to grow in their careers. They also have a proudly South African range called Ovation Wines.

The Location

The Wellington Wine Route I would say is a hidden gem just an hour's drive out of Cape Town. This country bumpkin town will make you feel like you are "away from it all" and the friendly hospitality just makes it that much better.

There is gravel road parking available at this winery is not super ideal for people in wheelchairs due to all the steps however there is a back road which you can enquire about upon entrance at the security gate.

Diemersfontein Wine Tasting

The wine tasting room is set back overlooking the beautiful Wellington Winelands and has both a small inside area (wine bar) and a rather extensive outdoor area that is sheltered from the rain and sun. You will enjoy a vast wine tasting offering that includes sweet or savoury wine pairings and even brandy too!

Diemersfontein Pinotage Wine South Africa

When one talks about Diemersfontein, one simply cannot think anything other than amazing Pinotage but this winery actually has a large range of other wines too! From sparkling to vintage, Sauvignon Blanc to Shiraz and so many nice blends in both the entry value category and premium category. The tasting room is open seven days a week from 10h00 - 17h00.

Restaurant

The restaurant on the estate is called Aan Tafel and offers a range of fresh cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The decor is really rustic and the views divine. For me, the service was rather slow and the food wasn't fantastic but pleasant enough for a slow afternoon.

Accommodation

I was fortunate enough to stay overnight at the estate and was completely blown away to hear that they offer as many as 30-en-suite rooms! I mean, how much more perfect could you get for an overnight celebration party such as weddings or birthdays! The one house alone had seven bedrooms. Yes, SEVEN!
