The classy Diemersfontein Pinotage On-Tap Fest

Festival goers at the recent Diemersfontein On-Tap Festival were treated to the Awarded “Best Wine Event in the World” (2014) by Drinks International, this past weekend.According to Stacy Bothma, who was one of the festival goers, "It is a wine, food and music extravaganza which is the classiest of the lot." 

Here's why...

I attended on 29 October at the Diemersfontein wine farm in Wellington and was expecting the usual chaos at wine festivals with unlimited wine. Well, it was the total opposite. Extremely sophisticated!Despite the unlimited wine on-tap, there were no "drunk hooligans" which is often seen at festivals.  I think the main reason for it being so classy was because most of the festival goers are over the age of 30 and could afford the higher than average ticket price (R435). So they were not there to get "wasted" but rather for a good afternoon.The ticket prices were extremely good value for money. I had enough food and drinks to last the entire day, just using the vouchers I received in my snack pack which was part of my ticket purchase. How amazing is this snack pack!? And this was just a snack, to start off with!This meal voucher which was in the snack pack could get you 3 slices of pizza or a chicken curry! You could have both because you were given TWO meal vouchers as well as a dessert voucher.There were plenty of wine barrels which we could sip from. All manned by friendly staff.They fill it right to the top and this Pinotage does have distinct chocolate flavours yum!The festival was packed, both inside and outside the tents! Yet, it didn't feel over crowded.The entertainment was fantastic and something different. I enjoyed some famous tunes from James Bond, Gremlins and Pirates of the Caribbean. Live on stage was the Cape Town Brass Band, together with special guest singer Zolani Mahola (lead singer of Freshly Ground) and under the direction of top musical conductor Richard Cock.Among the performers was Durbanite tenor Aubrey Mlindi Pato.We enjoyed relaxing on the lawns, under the shade of the trees.Some people were clever and brought umbrellas. Note to self for next time!Besides the wine, food and live entertainment, other activities included golf...and the totally famous (worth the calories) chocolate fountain with strawberries and marshmallows <3There was even coffee too <3 We had fun right until the end at 19h00 when the sun was setting.A fantastic wine festival to be enjoyed annually.
