Meet wine farm 59 of 800 - Chamonix Wine farm in the Franschhoek Wine Valley. The Chamonix tasting room has been converted from an old Blacksmith's Cottage built in the late 18th century. The farm itself is more than 350 years old.It has all the country charm you are looking for including some incredible sunset moments!BOOKINGS: bookings are not essential but are recommended unless you would like to eat at the restaurant. Here is my experience:

Make this a quick stop on one of your wine adventures. The tasting is limited and quite quick so it is great to start or end off the day in Franschhoek.I was really impressed that we arrived at 16h00 and they let us stay and taste until 17h00 - now that is great, friendly service!There is an inside and outside tasting area plus a Reuben's restaurant!The inside tasting area is very small, dark, rustic and intimate. It is really great for couples but not so great if you are claustrophobic.I chose to sit outside and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings - I guess you can say that I am the claustrophobic type ;)I really enjoyed the Chardonnay 2015 which spent 11 months in 40% new French oak barrels - delicious! Plus look at the 5-star platters award 2017. R195 a bottle. It's an elegant fruity wine that has good depth from the oakiness and even had hints of caramel on the palate.For the reds, I really loved this Pinot Noir reserve 2015 for R395 a bottle! Yeah, now that's an expensive wine! It has spent 14 months in 30% new french oak barrels and had a lovely dark colour! Bursting with fruitiness and spice with a good, lingering acidic finish.I had a sneak peak of the cellar which was literally across from the tasting room.You can book a cellar tour for just R30 a person.To end it all off, I enjoyed some Grappa husk spirit (Cabernet / Malbec) which was 43% alcohol and R320 a bottle.Chamonix also bottles their own natural, spring water on site. You can also purchase some souvenirs like bottle openers, aprons, cooler bags, wine and tot glasses.The restaurant area is literally built around the forest with a small stream running through the back garden. The ambiance of this room at night (especially when it rains) is truly romantic!I had a great short visit and I am sure you will too! Cheers!So which farm will be next?:)x
