Best Mother's Day wines you can get from Spar

Here are my best, last minute and value for money wines that you can get from your local Spar / Tops at Spar for any occasion this Mother's Day...

A bubbly Breakfast:

The newly released J.C. Le Roux Vibrazio range is perfect for breakfast because it is slightly sweet and will pair well with eggs Benedict or crispy bacon/salmon sandwiches. It's only around R70 a bottle and is available in Demi-Sec Rosé pink, Demi-sec white and Sauvignon Blanc. You can also definitely mix this with orange peel or even orange juice. The Simonsig Kaapse Vonkel Brut is dry and refreshing. It would pair well with ham and cheese croissants. Around R130 a bottle.

Light Lunch:

If you are looking for a white wine, you cannot go wrong with Durbanville Hills Sauvignon Blanc. Enjoy crisp grassy and peppery flavours R60 a bottle. If it's Rosé you prefer, then Hidden Valley's Rosé is a real treat at about R130 a bottle. The bottle is especially produced for the estate overseas and is incredibly unusual. I have never tasted a Rosé with this type of blend either: 72% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Shiraz. It is only 13.50% alcohol and 1.57 g/l sugar. If your Spar doesn't stock this one, then they should definitely  have the Warwick First Lady Rosé which is 100% Pinotage. Only around R90 a bottle, it is incredibly refreshing. Delicately pink, bursting with pomegranate, strawberry and watermelon. Bone dry, yet soft with good acidity.

Hearty Lunch:

If you mom loves steak, then the Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon is just what she needs to pair with it. 18 months in French oak barrels, it is full bodied with soft tannins. Fruity ripe berries yet hints of peppery undertones. R140 a bottle. If you are looking for something more spicy, then you definitely cannot go wrong with a Pinotage from Beyerskloof. Try to look for the reserve if you can - the extra few bucks is worth it! It is full of blackberry and prune flavors, smooth and you can certainly pick up the Cedar oak aromas from barrel maturation. R125 a bottle.

Dessert treats:

The JC Le Roux Scintilla 2011 is elegant, bubbly and now 6 years old! At R230 a bottle, your mom will feel super special. This MCC has a beautiful balance between fresh citrus notes from the Chardonnay and mouth feel from the Pinot Noir - a great contrast if you are enjoying something sweet to eat. Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing moms out there. :)x
