Vendome Wines in Paarl has been Producing Grapes since 1692
Vendome Wines in Paarl is my 142nd wine farm visit in South Africa and I was totally surprised to hear that they have been growing grapes since 1692! That's over 329 years ago! The farm was granted to the Le Roux family who were French Huguenots and today that same family continues the legacy with its tenth generation wine farmer!
Getting to this winery is quite simple, about a 40-minute drive from Cape Town and close to Paarl Mall. Upon entry, you may notice cows laying in the vineyard which surrounds the road - it's really rather cute. The original building is now the tasting room and restaurant where you can choose to sit indoors by the fireplace or outdoors under the oak trees (be careful of the odd acorn landing on your head from the branches above).
This winery is also very popular for weddings and kids parties (I know, what a contrast!) The indoor and outside areas make beautiful venues for wedding receptions and then around the corner, there is a big kiddies play area. Absolutely you can be sure that the two areas are not booked out at the same time ;)
Canape and Wine Pairing at Vendome
Vendome Wines have just launched their Canape & Wine pairing which features 5 gourmet pairings for R165 per person. It all comes at once so you can take your time sipping and munching through all the different flavours. My favourite pairing was the Rose with the salmon - absolutely divine!

- Pairing 2: Chardonnay with Mushroom risotto
- Pairing 3: Rose with Salmon
- Pairing 4: Cabernet with Lamb
- Pairing 5: Shiraz with slider

Vendome wines also has a fully functioning kitchen so you can expect hearty breakfasts and lunches with wine and to end it all off, coffee!
In Conclusion
Overall this winery is super laid back and rustic, a rather romantic vibe. Although there is a play area, I would actually recommend that you rather come with your significant other and sit under the trees whilst you sip on some wine. Its a perfect venue for winter or summer months, so any time of the year is perfect. Service is friendly.
I cannot believe I have never heard of this hidden gem before!
