Salt and wine Pairing at 49/800 - Bergkelder Fleur du Cap, Stellenbosch

Wine farm 49 of 800 is Bergkelder the home of Fleur du Cap, Stellenbosch. #DoStelliesBergkelder is part of Distell which is conveniently right next door. Bergkelder was founded in 1967 and in 1998 they launched their unique range of unfiltered wines called Fleur du Cap. Their vision was that the wine was made with the intention of retaining the natural flavours and varietal character of the grapes, with the least amount of human interference. Today the cellar bottles many other wine brands!

I have rated this wine farm experience 4 star.

I even noticed umbrellas on stand by in case it is raining.SERVICE: There is friendly service and the wine tasting is brought to you. I did however find the salt and wine tasting a little awkward as they waited there for you to finish the first tasting before they explained the next one to you. But it could have just been a new/nervous service provider on the day.CONTACT:Tel: +27 21 809 8025info@bergkelder.co.zaCHILD/PET FRIENDLY? Here is my experience:

I visited on a sweltering hot day, so the fact that I got to do a cellar tour in an air conditioned environment was just what I needed! These hand carved wine barrels are a must see and I really enjoyed figuring out what they all mean. There are loads of them! This room below can be hired out for functions. I can just imagine a wine party here - oh help yourself to one of these wine barrels LOL!This is the entrance to the tasting room and wine shop as you walk in to meet your tour guide.Below is the salt and wine pairing for R95 each. 4 unfiltered Fleur du Cap wines as well as a dessert wine. Each was perfectly paired with pates that were made from a different type of salt. Even black salt from Hawaii! It was well presented on a block of salt and served with some cracker bread. It really was a great savoury wine pairing! Here is a video on the salt pairing experience.https://youtu.be/I0BVH61VgcsJust  a short walk from the tasting room, is a bridge to the mountain cellar and along the way, some pretty cool museum pieces. This is an old German wine press made from Oak.At bergkelder you can pay just R60 a year to store a case of wine containing 6 bottles. I quite like this idea if you are an avid wine collector and do not have the facilities to store it at home. They even have a bottling plant where 10 000 bottles of wine are produced every hour! How impressive! The tour guide was very friendly and we were given a quick lesson on wine making, maturation and the cost of these barrels! Each barrel is a cool R10 000 plus and there are around 20 000 of them!I really enjoyed exploring these passages! These passages store around 500 000 wine bottles! #wineheaven  Afterwards, why not enjoy a bottle of wine at the bar, or visit the wine museum. Here are some more details on the different experiences at Fleur du Cap. So which wine farm will be next? :)x
