What a treat it was to visit Quoin Rock Winery tucked away in a valley just off the R44 about a 35-minute drive from Cape Town because it just exudes elegance! But unfortunately for locals, it is super expensive - or is it? I booked a simple wine tasting to find out...

Wine Tasting

Wine tasting is R250 which seems quite expensive for 5 wines considering most wineries offer tastings at R50. Quoin Rock serves their wine in high-quality crystal glasses so that you can taste each of the rather pricey wines in elegance. If R250 seems a little steep, you can order wine by the glass, like the incredible Chardonnay for R100 a glass. You will also be tasting one of the top 12 awarded Shiraz red wines in the country!

Indulge in a cheese or charcuterie platter for R250 for two people sharing. Or opt for some oysters and MCC. If you have a sweet tooth, there's an option for that too! Wine Tasting guests sit outside in the "Wine Tasting Lounge" area overlooking the incredible wine valley. You can also enjoy a wine tasting in the restaurant if the restaurant is not fully booked. Here is the Wine Tasting Menu.

The Architecture at Quoin Rock Winery

A Robotic Engineer and an Architect own Quoin Rock and so each and every element of the building is incredibly well thought out. P.S. the building you can see in the below photo with the mirrored windows is the wedding venue!

Quoin Rock Wine Lounge

It almost feels like you are inside a machine with the modern materials used. The wine bar looks like one gigantic wine barrel is breaking apart in circles. The walls represent the vines of the vineyard and the ceiling represents the leaves of the vines - essentially encapsulating you in the winemaking process. It certainly is an epic location for great photos!

Gåte Restaurant

Many locals would have heard of Quoin Rock's highly acclaimed restaurant called Gåte (Pronounced "gat - ay") yet most may feel a bit intimidated to just go for a wine tasting. I say GO! And if you are fortunate enough to try one of the superb set menu's at Gåte, then my friend, you won't be disappointed. Choose from a 7-course (R1450) menu or 14-course (R2250 with wine) menu.

Gate Restaurant at Quoin Rock

Overall, I would say that this is not a venue for kiddies. Quoin Rock is well suited to sophisticated groups of friends or families in groups of 2, 4 or 6. I had a super time with Bongani, Brand Ambassador, who explained the wines incredibly well! The service is definitely top-notch and I would love to enjoy this experience all over again!
