Here is my experience:

I arrived mid-day and was so impressed with the well manicured gardens. There is also an upper deck should you wish to take in the views. Check out the giant chess board!Leigh van den Berg (Lip Gloss Is My Life Blog) had some fun with the Chess board - so it is not just for kids guys! ;)leigh-riding-a-ponyThis is the jungle gym which is fabulous for parents - all within eye distance from the cellar tasting room.ashton-kelder-jungle-gymAll the wine tasting is FREE unless you are a large group of more than 5 people, then it is R20 due to the extra service needed. Here is the Cellar Door Price List:  aw-cellar-door-price-list ashton-kelder-wine-barIt is extremely good value for money - the most expensive wine is R105! Plus what I really liked is that they also have a grape juice range which looks like wine - hehe, the kids certainly won't feel left out!ashton-kelder-tasting-roomWe got stuck right in with the food and wine pairing. I really enjoyed this and it was only R30! The Regional Sales Rep lady (Michelle) told me that they have a special Christmas pairing coming up so you should check it out!   ashton-kelder-wine-and-food-pairing-wideThis is an example of how versatile they are. We had some veggies joining us and this was a great alternative!ashton-kelder-sweet-pairingThey have quite a good wine range which is very well priced.ashton-kelder-red-winesAnd won some pretty nifty awards: ashton-winery-awardsashton-kelder-white-winesBelow, is the very popular Satyn range - their value for money, easy drinking, every day wine. Here are the tasting notes which I had a little giggle at - it is so easy going  :)Satynwit – Dry, crisp and fruity white blendSatynrooi – Velvety, unwooded dry red blendSatynperlé – Fizzy and fun with a hint of blossomSatynrosé – Think pink, Turkish delight and rose petalsashton-kelder-satyn-range Whilst I was there, a local came to visit and announced that he was here for the sweet wine. Well there are plenty of options! Check these below - pear brandy, pear liqueur and a Rosé cooler. I soon learnt that people come to Ashton Winery to experience the sweeter side of wine tasting and that is why their sweet food pairings do so well. Robertson certainly does have a sweet tooth! Here are the picnics! All of this for only R400! That's R200 a basket which feeds two people.picnic-on-deckWe opted to sit on the grass and as you can see, there is so much food including dessert! YUM!ashton-kelder-picnic-layout-on-grass-finalLeigh has impeccable food styling skills which I seriously lack ;) Thanks Leigh!picnic-stylling-by-leigh-van-den-bergEach picnic comes with a free bottle of wine from the Ashton Winery Range  :)I opted to get an extra bottle which was the Ashton Kelder Roodewall 2015. I loved it!40% Pinotage, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Shiraz = delicious!
