Here is my experience:
There are two ranges to taste from.
- The Arendsig range (5 wines)
- The inspirational range (4 wines)
First up (at 10h30 in the morning no less) was the Sauvignon Blanc single vineyard. I got stuck right in and blissfully enjoyed some beautiful Guava aromas.Cold, light and thirst quenching - this really got my taste buds going :)It has spent 6 months on the lees, with no wood maturation.Alcohol: 13.44%, sugar: 2.1g/l and only natural yeast is used - so no enzymes.Arendsig Sauvignon Blanc R115 a bottleNow did you know that "Arendsig" means Eagle's View. The silhouette of the eagle on the packaging represents the mountain range which can be seen from the cellar. It is a privately owned, boutique farm which lies at the bottom of the Robertson Valley.
Next up was the Chardonnay. It had quite a robust citrus aroma and when I tasted it, it was everything you would expect from an unwooded chardonnay. A round mouth feel with a lingering honey finish.Alcohol: 13.77%Sugar: 4.9 g/lIt was matured in 5000L french oak, third fill, Foudre casks and in 300L neutral vessels for 10 months on the lees.I absolutely loved sitting back and enjoying these views. This is the grass lawn available for the kiddies to play on.Clouds for days! I really like wax seals, particularly this yellow one on the Viognier. You can clearly smell Jasmine and apricots. It is round and full bodied with an exceptional golden colour. Easy on the palate and not sweet. It has spent 10 Months on the lees in neutral, 225L barrels Alcohol: 14.09 %Sugar: 3.4g/l To the back of me was the function venue so I decided to take a sneak peak. How marvelous is this rustic room? It was busy being set up for a dinner. I believe they do small weddings here too.The Arendsig Inspirational Batch Chenin Blanc. Only 2200 bottles were produced and it was fabulous! I bought a bottle to take home. It has a deep, golden honey colour with beautiful aromas of apples and spice. A tangy acidity which is well rounded off with a rich and broad flavour. Matured for 10 months in a combination of 300- and 500-litre barrels. Onto the reds! This was a great fruity Cabernet Sauvignon which was matured in French casks for 14 months.Bursting aromas of plums and mint - great rich tannins and a fruity full mouth finish. It would go really well with a juicy steak.Alcohol: 14.5%Sugar: 4.7g/l The Single Block Shiraz shows good potential with aromas of leather, ripe cherries and spice. The wine was matured for 10 Months in Foudre Cask followed by 3 months in neutral, 225L barrels. An awesome time! Thanks Lourens!x
