I was so warmly welcomed and I like the way they reserve tables :) Thank you for the outstanding service Ryan.
What a relaxing setting to enjoy a wine tasting.
This is the cheese and meat platter for R180, or R140 without the meat. They also offer sandwiches and salads out of the Cellardoor. Each platter comes with freshly baked bread rolls which are just heavenly. All the ingredients are local and are top quality. This platter was perfect for 3-4 people. Here is the cellardoor menu.

lavenir-tasting-optionsThe wine tasting options range from R30 - R80. What I really liked is that you can opt to do a fun blind tasting experience. The MCC Brut from the Future Eternal range is 31% Chardonnay, 29% Gamay noir, 22% Pinotage and 18% Pinot noir.
It has spent three months in the stainless steel tank and 37 months bottle fermentation. Citrus and floral flavors, I could taste pear and it wasn't sweet.Good tiny bubbles with a great dry finish. It paired beautifully with the cheese and meat platter. This is the L'Avenir Rosé from the Far and Near range. It is 100% Pinotage with 4-6 hours skin contact. It is fermented in steel tanks for three weeks with no maturation in the barrel. The result is a dry fruity wine with floral notes, only 1.2g/l sugar and 13% alcohol.I could pick up distinct notes of watermelon, so refreshing. R65 a bottle.
Have you ever seen a wine bottle with a glass cork? 😱💕This is the most beautiful bottle from L'Avenir called the Glen Rose from their Single Block range, 100% Pinotage.Only 1-2 hours skin contact resulted a a beautifully light pink salmon colour.Strawberries, rose petals and citrus notes are is what you will experience on the nose.On the palate I enjoyed fresh acidity similar to strawberries, with a dry finish. R200 a bottle. The beautiful L'Avenir MCC Rosé was next. 38% Pinot Noir, 28% Pinotage, 17% Chardonnay, 9% Pinot Meunier and 8% Gamay Noir. 18 months bottle fermentation.Fresh biscuit with young raspberry and grapefruit aromas on the nose. On the palate it is dry with good acidity. Small bubbles. Citrus with medium crisp finish and a vibrant mousse. R170 a bottle. This is the awesome Pinotage threesome 😍🍷👌 Did you know that L'Avenir has a Pinotage room which you can book for private tastings? Their Pinotage wines are really good! Single Block (R320), Far and Near (R65) and Provenance (R130) is what is featured below. The Single Block Pinotage was exceptional!Nose: Intense spicy fruitcake, supported by sweet oak characters and delicate floral notesPalate: Dynamic and rich fruit flavours are complimented by a full-body structure, fine tannins and a powerful finish.
Now, I am not normally a fan of Chenin Blanc but I have recently taken a liking for it.I loved this Single Block Chenin Blanc. The 2014 vintage was awarded a Standard Bank top 10! A mesmerising nose of sun-dried apricots and peach blossoms, ripe yellowpears, sweet oranges and a delicate hint of nut. A fruit-rich wine that lingers on the palate with well-balanced acidity and oak nuances. A touch of soft lime and a whisper of almond create an intriguing aftertaste that is both fresh and decadent. R220 a bottle.
Below is the 2013 L'Avenir Provenance Cabernet Sauvignon for R100 a bottle.Nose: Blackcurrant, dried fruits, leather and sundried grassy veld characterPalate: Concentrated, spicy. A classically elegant wine with ripe tannins and fine balance.I really enjoyed this wine which I paired with red onion pickles, beef carpaccio and freshly baked bread.
