No. 19 Simonsig - Stellenbosch
Wine farm number 19/800 is the bubbly Simonsig in Stellenbosch! #DoStelliesProbably the best part of Simonsig is that you can cut the head off of a MCC bottle with a sword!I would recommend calling before hand to arrange it with the farm. You can taste 5 wines for R50 with service, or you can pay R35 to taste 5 wines by the bar.First up was the Simonsig Kaapse Vonkel Brut. It has energetic, yet elegant bubbles. Notes of white peach and red berries. On the palate we were told to hold the MCC in our mouth. We experienced an explosion of bubbles. Then the heavier part of the MCC dropped to under the tongue and you could then taste the freshly baked bread flavor rounded off with fruit and good acidity.53% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir and 2% Pinot Meunier. R125 a bottlePink and bubbly! I absolutely love Simonsig's description of their Brut Rosé MCC: "Dancing aromas of delicious red berries and luscious strawberries will tickle the senses, whilst a string of pearls bring the floral bouquet to the fore. The pleasing mouthfeel showcases high notes of fresh fruit accompanied by a subtle crisp acidity perfecting the balance for a refreshing dry finish." Now that's a good piece of copywriting! 31% Pinotage, 67% Pinot Noir and 2% Pinot Meunier. R125 a bottle. This is the Simonsig Prestige Cuvée Blanc de Blancs MCC Brut. It is made from 100% Chardonnay and was aged on the lees for 4-5 years. It won a 2016 Platters Guide 4 and a half stars. R265 a bottle. This is the outside area which is really great on a nice day.Sufficient shade and cushions on the chairs. There are many good places to take some photos like this giant wine barrel.Or you can take a walk through the garden and read through some of the interesting facts at the outdoor museum. This is the tasting room. The fireplace really kept the room nice a warm. There is a restaurant too called Cuvée. You can read more about it by clicking here. There are some interesting pieces of old wine machinery too.It was interesting for me to see that Simonsig produced South Africa's first MCC.

Good for most groups of people (2-8 people). Not suitable for children.Click HERE to view the ranking of this farm against others I have already reviewed.Booking is not necessary. First come, first served however I would recommend booking the MCC sword cutting.
