No. 18 Beyerskloof - Stellenbosch

Whilst on my adventures for finding the best Rosé and bubbly wines in Stellenbosch this Spring #doStellies, I just had to find a Rosé wine made from Pinotage! What better farm than the famous Beyerskloof - they are certainly known for really good Pinotage!the-wine-girl-cape-town-at-farm-beyerskloof-wines Have you ever tried a Pinotage dry Rosé? Rosé wines are so fantastic to enjoy during the Spring and Autumn months. This one from Beyerskloof was well balanced and medium bodied. Strawberries, good acidity and depth of flavor from the Pinotage makes it perfect to pair with salmon. It had 6 hours skin contact and was left on the lees for 3 months. R55 a bottle. Great value for money. Here she is in all her splendour - just look at that beautiful colour, when the light shines through it you get gleams of golden tangerine hues.beyerskloof-pinotage-dry-rose-2016 And I just had to try it with Salmon at the beautiful Beyerskloof restaurant. Click here to read more about the Beyerskloof restaurant.beyerskloof-salmon-and-pinotage-dry-roseThere is a marvelous outside area at the restaurant, if it is a lovely day, then you should book this section and enjoy a glass of Pinotage.beyerskloof-restaurant-the-wine-girl-cape-townThe decor at Beyerskloof is clean, contemporary and slightly rustic. I wouldn't mind a wine display cabinet like this!beyerskloof-wine-selectionAnd look at this gem! I don't know who signed it...but it was half the size of me!signed-beyerskloof-pinotage-2007This is the private tasting room - I would advise you to book this, it is much better than the normal tasting bar.Either this, or just order a bottle and sit at the restaurant.beyerskloof-wine-tasting-roomYou can see the restaurant through the window and yes, that is a fire place between the restaurant and the tasting room.I'm coming back in the winter months for sure!tasting-roomAnd so our journey began, tasting all the different varieties of wine Beyerskloof had on offer.Beyerskloof Pinotage Reserve ❤️ My favourite 100% Pinotage! This has always been my old faithful when it comes to taking wine to a braai. It is a brilliant wine for the price you pay and pairs wonderfully with red meat.2014 for me is a better year, keep the 2015 in the bottle for another year I think ;)It is full of blackberry and prune flavors, smooth and you can certainly pick up the Cedar oak aromas from barrel maturation. R125 a bottle.beyerskloof-pinotage-reserve-2014Here is the 2015 - an excellent seller for Beyerskloof at only R65 a bottle. Perfect for a mid week pairing with dinner at home.beyerskloof-pinotage-2015Now we are talking the real deal! This wine was named after the owner of Beyerskloof (Beyers') dog Diesel. He was a great Dane who sadly passed away. It's Beyerskloof's premium Pinotage (2013) and is an example of what they are trying to accomplish with the varietal. It has extremely intense flavours and you can hardly see through the glass from the dark colour of the wine.Pungent flavours of dark cherry fruit and cedar wood on the nose. I would recommend buying this and keeping it for a special occasion in 10 years time which will allow it to age even more beautifully. It's R575 a bottle! Why? Well the wine making process is top class! Matured in 100% new French oak barrels for 20 months. 300 barrels were filled and only 20 were selected and released to the public!A fine wine indeed but you will need to have a mature palate to appreciate it.beyerskloof-dog-wineShowing off some of our favourites :)beyerskloof-wine-tasting-room-the-wine-girl-cape-townbeyerskloof-wine-tasting-room-the-wine-girl-cape-town2We met with Christiaan who kindly took us on a cellar tour.I learnt that not all barrels are from the same supplier and we were looking at the difference of how the Beyerskloof logos were either printed or burned into the wood.beyerskloof-wine-cellarI just loved reading some of the branding on the barrels like this one. Medium toast traditional (reminds me of coffee) :)beyerskloof-wine-barrels-2I like that you can sit in the tasting room and have a sneak peak of the cellar through the window. This time, I was on the other side :)beyerskloof-wine-barrelsThis is the outside area where you can sit and take in some sunshine. It is perfect for larger groups of people.beyerskloof-wine-outside-area-2beyerskloof-outside-areaFinally we had a taste of the Beyerskloof Traildust 2015 which is a thoughtful tribute to everyone who helped make Pinotage from the vineyard to the glass. What a lovely thought.A smooth blend of 32% Pinotage; 35% Cinsaut and 33% Pinot noir.It had 4 days skin contact and spent 13 months in third fill French oak barrels. I really enjoyed it. Not too heavy, fruity, punchy tannins with a smooth finish.R100 a bottle sold only at the cellar.the-wine-girl-cape-town-beyerskloof-traildust-2015Here are some of my favourites again just to remind you that the 2014 Pinotage is the best:beyerskloof-pinotage-reserve-2015beyerskloof-pinotage-2015-the-wine-girl-cape-townPerfect for spring, who could not go home without a chilled, dry Rosé.beyerskloof-pinotage-dry-rose-with-hand-and-glassThank you for having us Beyerskloof! See you again soon for some more amazing Pinotage!beyerskloof-entranceCheers!the-wine-girl-cape-town-visit-farm-beyerskloof

Good for most groups of people (2-8 people or up to 20 if you can sit outside). Not really suitable for children however I did see a few running around.Click HERE to view the ranking of this farm against others I have already reviewed.Booking is not necessary. First come, first served however I would recommend booking the private tasting room or at the restaurant to avoid disappointment.

Good in Winter or Summer.
