No. 13 Bloemendal - Durbanville

Wine farm number 13 is Bloemendal wine estate in Durbanville.IMG_2074The wine tasting room is a little gem! Many people know about the restaurant but if you drive a little further down the path, you will get to a bike trail and the tasting room.gravel-roadthe-stablesIt is great for a sunny day because you can enjoy the rolling green lawn and sit under the trees.IMG_2077You can even ask for a blanket to sit on the grass. This is great if you have small children or want to relax with friends.groupsYou can't see much of a view, but the sounds of the birds in the trees are enough :)IMG_2079I love the colours in this photo. Look at that colour! My ultimate favourite Malbec! 😍Bloemendal Waterlily Malbec is not on the tasting list but I suggest you ask for it to try. Only R80 a bottle. It is incredibly dry with full berry and cigar box flavors.malbec-close-upThe Bloemendal Waterlily Merlot 2014 has spent 16 months in 2nd and 3rd fill French oak barrels. On the palate it was soft and smooth, bursting with red berry fruit flavors. Great for a lunch time roast, pizza or pasta. But I enjoyed it even on its own.A great every day wine. R80 a bottle.merlotThe Waterlily Sauvignon Blanc is light and cheerful. We tried the 2016 which had just been bottled. It is very lemony and you can certainly smell the goosseberry and tropical fruit. What a lovely summer wine for only R70 a bottle.sauvignon-blancHave you ever tried a Shiraz Rosé?This is a nice dry wine to pair with sushi because it is low in alcohol has good acidity. Think violet blossoms and cherries on the nose.R60 a bottle.roseIf it is cold outside, there is an elegant inside area.tasting-roomIMG_2075inside-tasting-areabarThe waitrons that serve the wine tasting are very knowledgeable. The service is a bit slow if it is busy so if you go, be prepared to relax there for the day. You can choose from two different wine tastings. The Super Premium range (Waterlily) at R40 for 4 tastings.waterlilly-rangeThe Ultra Premium range at R60 for 4 wines.mapThis has got to be one of the best white wines I have ever tasted! The Bloemendal Suider Terras 2014, Sauvignon Blanc.Fynbos, herbs and lime flavors are prevelant. The Durbanville wine route is known to produce exceptional Terroir wines with Sauvignon Blanc being some of the best in South Africa.R200 a bottle.suider-terraswhite-winesAward winning wines.opening-timesAt the back of the tasting room, there are MTB trails which you should check out if you are a bike lover.mtb-leanneIf you get hungry like I did, you can walk across the road to the restaurant and have some great sushi :)sushiIMG_2078road
