A perfect Winter Red - Jason's Creek

In my glass this  week is the Jason’s Creek Classic Red 2015 by Jason's Hill Wines. It's a Cape Blend (Pinotage, Petit Verdot and Tannat) which was full-bodied, somewhat spicy and full of berry flavour. It's only around 70 bucks from selected retail outlets like Tops at Spar, so put on a family roast and enjoy this wine mid-week. It will certainly warm you up!I experienced a great balance of tannin and for those that enjoy Pinotage or Shiraz, this blend is right up your ally.Bottle:The label is really fun, and there is a nice representation behind it. The top half represents the heritage of the farm, and the bottom half the farm as it is known today. The heritage and name of the wine dates back to an old shepherd who cared for his flock of sheep in the mountains behind the farm, which is situated in the heart of the Slanghoek Wine Valley. The shepherd’s name was Jason, which is how Jason’s Hill came into being. The label depicts the shepherd and his sheep in the mountains surrounded by flowers. The vineyards on the label represent the farmers who had started planting vines during that time. The bottom half represents the vineyards of today. These vineyards are more prominent on the label symbolising a thriving and successful estate. The barrels and bottles are also significant of the current ownership.Spot the resident farm cat, who has become a welcome sight to visitors throughout the years, and is fondly referred to as Jason.Colour in the glass:The colour was  a fabulous dark ruby colour.Smell: It has been matured in French oak for 10 months so I could pick up raspberries with a bit of a spicy undertone.Taste:It is the ideal every-day red. Smooth, uncomplicated and good value for money. On the palate it gave a good, full mouth feel, cherry on entry and spice at the end. Despite it having a screw top, the winemaker Ivy du Toit, recommends that you can keep it mature to its full potential within the next 8-12 years. You can get it at most retail outlets like Tops at Spar, nation wide. You can also get this online from wine.co.za For more information visit www.jasonshill.co.za.
