A dazzling New Year with Pongracz Desiderius MCC
I was in for a treat this New Year's with a 2008 MCC by Pongracz Desiderius.Note how elegant the bottle is with its unique design. When you buy it, it comes wrapped in gold cellophane for around R430 a bottle. Available at Makro. This bottle is a tribute to Desiderius Pongrácz, a nobleman and refugee from the Hungarian uprising who was known to see the new in the familiar. The bottle bears his family crest and even signature. It is made from 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir - grapes sourced in the Robertson, Stellenbosch and Elgin regions of the Western Cape, South Africa.Just look at those bubbles! On the palate it has quite a strong taste of fresh fruit, almonds and rich buttery bread. It certainly got my taste buds going and would pair wonderfully with chocolate or even duck. It has a strong Chardonnay taste, so if you love Chardonnay, you will love this too.Residual sugar at 5.1 g/l and alcohol at 11.71 vol %.
