A dazzling New Year with Pongracz Desiderius MCC

I was in for a treat this New Year's with a 2008 MCC by  Pongracz Desiderius.pongracz-angle-shotNote how elegant the bottle is with its unique design. When you buy it, it comes wrapped in gold cellophane for around R430 a bottle. Available at Makro.pongracz-glassesThis bottle is a tribute to Desiderius Pongrácz, a nobleman and refugee from the Hungarian uprising who was known to see the new in the familiar. The bottle bears his family crest and even signature.pongracz-top-shotIt is made from 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir - grapes sourced in the Robertson, Stellenbosch and Elgin regions of the Western Cape, South Africa.pongracz-pouringJust look at those bubbles! On the palate it has quite a strong taste of fresh fruit, almonds and rich buttery bread. It certainly got my taste buds going and would pair wonderfully with chocolate or even duck. It has a strong Chardonnay taste, so if you love Chardonnay, you will love this too.pongracz-packagingResidual sugar at 5.1 g/l  and alcohol  at 11.71 vol %.
