Moedi Wines: Sustainability and Community Empowerment

Moedi Wines is an African wine brand founded by Lesego Serolong Holzapfel and is poised to leave an indelible mark at ProWein 2024 in Düsseldorf, Germany. Amidst showcasing premium South African wines on a global stage, Moedi Wines stands out for its unwavering commitment to sustainability, African heritage, and community empowerment, particularly through the art of beekeeping.

Celebrating South Africa's Milestones

As South Africa commemorates 30 years of democracy and 365 years of its wine industry, Moedi Wines takes centre stage at ProWein 2024. From its humble beginnings, the South African wine industry has burgeoned, employing over a quarter of a million people in its value chain. Lesego Serolong Holzapfel reflects on the journey, remarking, "Amid our challenges, there is much to celebrate."

Embracing Collaboration and Excellence

Holzapfel underscores the significance of collaboration and excellence in shaping the trajectory of South Africa's wine industry. Despite historical barriers, both black and white winemakers are now crafting some of the world's finest wines and Cap Classiques. She believes in sharing this story of hope, friendship, and excellence with the world.

Unveiling Moedi Wines at ProWein 2024

Moedi Wines debuts three single varietals - Chenin Blanc, Mourvèdre Rosé, and Shiraz - sourced from the renowned Swartland region's dryland vineyards. These wines, known for their complexity and drinkability, epitomize Moedi's commitment to quality and sustainability. Soon to be available in South Africa, the United States, the Netherlands, and Denmark, Moedi Wines promises a sensorial journey steeped in African authenticity.

Sustainability at the Heart of Moedi Wines

Beyond crafting exceptional wines, Moedi Wines embodies a profound commitment to sustainability and impact. With roots in the North West province of South Africa, Holzapfel's vision extends to rural livelihoods. Moedi Wines not only supports honey farmers but also funds scholarships for orphans in rural villages, with 10% of all profits dedicated to this cause.

Empowering Beekeepers, Nurturing Ecosystems

Moedi Wines champions beekeeping as a cornerstone of its sustainability efforts. Recognizing the pivotal role of bees as pollinators, Moedi Wines has established partnerships with rural beekeepers, providing training, mentorship, and fair market access for their honey. This symbiotic relationship fosters a sustainable ecosystem while empowering communities to thrive.

Crafting Impactful Collaborations

A testament to its ethos of collaboration, Moedi Wines has joined forces with Franschhoek-based Black Elephant Vintners & Co. to create the Black Elephant Vintners X Moedi Wines Cap Classique Black Bee Brut. Infused with honey, this exquisite wine symbolizes the convergence of diverse talents and cultures, celebrating the resilience of Africa's ecosystems.

Giving Back to Communities

Holzapfel's impact transcends the realm of wine. Together with her husband, Neil, she co-founded Raise the Children International, a non-profit organization providing scholarships to orphans in South Africa. Since its inception, the organization has empowered 176 scholars to access quality education, embodying Holzapfel's unwavering commitment to social upliftment.
