On 2 August 2024, some of the finest Durbanville red wines at the Taste of Terroir Soirée will be up for tasting. Hosted by the renowned producers of the Durbanville Wine Valley.

Durbanville's Red Wine Excellence

The soirée will showcase a variety of Durbanville red wines from several vintages and styles from Bloemendal, Diemersdal, De Grendel, D’Aria, Durbanville Hills, Groot Phesantekraal, Klein Roosboom, Maastricht, Meerendal, and Nitida.

Durbanville Wine Route Manager Natasha de Villiers says, “Taste of Terroir presents a rare opportunity for wine lovers to experience red wines of the Durbanville region at a single event. While the region is well-known as a producer of world-class Sauvignon Blanc, our red wines are equally renowned.”

Two Centuries of Wine Craftsmanship

Next year, Durbanville celebrates its 200th anniversary of wine growing, marking two centuries of dedication and expertise from the region's families. This event is a testament to their commitment to excellence in viticulture.

Award-Winning Wines

Durbanville red wines have consistently received high accolades in local and international wine shows. At the 2024 Trophy Wine Show, Durbanville Hills' 2022 Collectors Reserve The Promenade Pinotage won the trophy and secured a spot in the Top 10 Red Wines and Top 10 Best Value Reds. Diemersdal Estate's 2022 The Journal Pinotage earned a Gold medal at the International Wine Challenge.

Last year, Durbanville's Reds received significant recognition, including top honours at Veritas, the Michelangelo International Wine and Spirit Awards, and the Terroir Awards. They also received five stars from Platter’s South African Wine Guide for Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, and Red Blends/Cape Bordeaux, and were featured in the Shiraz SA Challenge Top 12.

The Secret to Durbanville's Success

The Durbanville region's success can be attributed to its ideal terroir and multi-generational expertise. The vineyards, which have thrived since 1698, benefit from diverse soil types, climatic conditions, and oceanic breezes that promote slow ripening and intense flavour development.
