Durbanville’s Unique Terroir

Pieter-Niel Rossouw, Durbanville Hills Cellar Master, attributed the success to the unique terroir of Durbanville, a cool-climate region ideal for cultivating premium wine grapes. Reflecting on the legacy of late winemaker Martin Moore, Rossouw credited Moore’s intuition for the region’s landscape, which consistently produces standout wines, especially the beloved Sauvignon Blanc.

“Sauvignon Blanc thrives in Durbanville’s cool climate, just 10km from the ocean and refreshed by breezes from False Bay and the Atlantic Ocean,” said Rossouw. “This environment gives our wines that vibrant acidity and distinctive aromatic profile that’s become our hallmark.”

Honouring a Legacy and Looking Forward

Albert Gerber, Managing Director of Durbanville Hills, shared his pride in the winery’s achievements, paying tribute to the winemaking team, past and present. “While we honour Martin’s legacy, we’re also excited about the talent and dedication of our new team members, including Pieter-Niel Rossouw and winemaker Tammy Claasen.”

Gerber also acknowledged the crucial role of Durbanville Hills’ member farms, whose dedication to terroir-driven winemaking has fostered the winery’s success.
