Skilpadvlei is my 160th wine farm visit in South Africa and offers a very unique cheesecake and wine pairing. Skilpadvlei is an Afrikaans word meaning "tortoise little lake" and is named as such because the land is home to tortoises since being founded in the 1800s. Today, the farm is owned by the Joubert family since 1917 and is in their fourth generation of farming.

This winery is about a 40-minute drive from Cape Town on the Stellenbosch Arterial road and can be easily accessed from the N1 or N2 highway through the R300 road.

Cheesecake and Wine Pairing

The Tasting area

The Wine tasting area has an outdoor and indoor section complete with a very cute gift shop. This tasting room can accommodate large groups though booking prior to your visit is advised. They have a super indoor fireplace if the weather is chilly and nice outside benches if the weather is fine.

The Wines

Skilpadvlei offers you 4 wines to taste for R55. Taste a Sauvignon Blanc, Rose (Blanc de Noir), Merlot and a Bordeaux Red Blend. These wines offer great value for money at under R200 a bottle.
