LovanE Boutique Wines in Stellenbosch has Malbec!

LovanE Boutique Wines in Stellenbosch is my 144th wine farm visit in South Africa. You can imagine my delight when I found out that they have a Malbec which is not so easily come by in South Africa.  This wine farm is quite new as they were established by the Visser family in 2003 and they produced their first wines in 2006.

Wine Tasting at LovanE Boutique Wines

Wine tasting is just R30 to taste 5 wines which is really great value because normally you pay around R10 a glass. The service was friendly and professional. You will find majority red wines with a favourite of mine being the Malbec and what a steal at only R85!

Wine tasting is conducted downstairs in the underground tasting room. It is not a huge room and so I would recommend smaller parties of 2-4 people. The wine tasting lasts only about 30 mins and each wine is explained as it is being poured. Since the wine tasting is over rather quickly, you can thereafter enjoy lunch or dinner at the neighbouring farms:

  • Jordan restaurant on the Jordan estate
    (021) 881-3612 or book online at www.jordanwines.com
  • Barrique restaurant at Vredenheim estate
    (021) 881-3001 www.barriquerestaurant.co.za
  • The restaurant at Neethlingshof (look out for seasonal “wine and music evenings” on a
    Wednesday evening)
    (021) 883-8966 www.neethlingshof.co.za
  • Mulderbosch (famous for creating local gourmet pizzas)
    (021) 881-8149 or www.mulderbosch.co.za
  • SPIER: Vadas Smokehouse & Bakery as well as the Farm Cafe restaurant available on The Werf.

It felt a bit of a shame to have to go down "underground" when it is such a lovely day out and so I would recommend that this winery is more a winter type of farm. You can also have a look around the maturation cellar and snap some pics with the photo booth signs.

I love this cute little fireplace area which is upstairs. So you could order a bottle and sip and savour it here too.

There is also a charming outside area, and although the upstairs section is reserved as a recreation area for the bed and breakfast, it would also be nice to order a bottle of wine to take in the views. The upstairs area can also be reserved for functions and conferences.

Accommodation

There is bed and breakfast accommodation at LovanE Boutique Wines with 16 units up for booking. The rooms range from Delux (suitable for bridal couples) to standard and so it would make a nice stay for wedding parties. There is also one room that is wheelchair friendly. Breakfast is included and they have access to a swimming pool. Rates are only around R1300 a night.

In conclusion

It was a very quick and enjoyable visit at LovanE wines. I would recommend this winery for a winters day for groups of 4 people max. Afterwards you can venture into Stellenbosch for lunch or supper. Kids are not recommended.

Until next time...

Much wine love

Leanne
