Lanzerac Chardonnay lazy summer days
I recently reviewed the just released Lanzerac Chardonnay 2015. It was the perfect hot day for it too because the wine was chilled and I added extra ice. It was so easy drinking and is said to be the perfect medium-bodied white wine to enjoy during these hot summer days by the pool.I immediately tasted a fresh fruitiness (Mangoes and Pineapples) to the wine which was well supported with oak undertones.
The grapes for this latest release were sourced from seven different vineyard blocks situated in the Jonkershoek Valley in Stellenbosch, varying in age from 10 to 22 years. Cellar Master Wynand Lategan says that the latest Lanzerac Chardonnay has the perfect balance between fruit, oak support and freshness. As the wine opens up an abundance of typical citrus fruit flavours come to the fore. Hints of spice with lashings of fresh citrus zest intermingled with soft cooked apples adds dimension to the nose. The palate promises flavours of tropical fruit such as mangoes, pineapples and bananas. A combination of new and older French Oak barrels were used to ensure the best preservation of fruit and a delicate, creamy mouthfeel. Ready to drink now, but will reach its optimal peak if left in ideal cellaring conditions for the next three to four years. This latest release from Lanzerac is the perfect food partner that will complement spicy food such as a fruity Cape Malay chicken curry, a classic Korma or delicious seafood Biriyani. Available from most wine stores nationwide or directly from the Tasting Room at R105 per bottle.
