My 129th wine farm visit is Kanu Wines in the Stellenbosch Wine Route of South Africa. When driving down the Stellenbosch R304 road, you will pass a large sign that says "KANU" - you probably have not noticed it before - but with the new signage, you cannot miss it. The winery has always been there but they now have a super Asian style restaurant called Du Vin.

Enjoy breakfast or lunch with a fabulous wine tasting, at the same time. This particular offering is actually quite hard to come by, as normally, restaurants do not allow wine tasting, they want you to buy a full glass or bottle. I guess that's why I loved this experience so much. I could have 2 different white wines with my starters, then 2 different red wines with my mains and then different bubbly with my dessert. It was quite a great experience exploring the different taste profiles and how the food influenced each wine and vice versa.

The restaurant has a beautiful stoep area where you can overlook the views of Stellenbosch. Good social distancing and COVID safety regulations were well adhered to.

I would definitely say that the restaurant is great for 4-8 people, summer or winter, and kids are most welcome. Keep your kids entertained at the jungle gym or play a round of putt putt.

Kanu Wines Wine Tasting

There is an extensive list of wines (around 20) up for tasting at Du Vin Restaurant. Each tasting is R10. The wine range is so large that you can taste a value and premium version of the same cultivar to compare the differences. That's what I did and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The service is super too and the staff are knowledgable when it comes to the wine.

Food

I absolutely love the menu! It changes regularly but you can order a range of breakfast or lunch with a good variety of meat or vegetarian dishes. The dishes are all quite small, but extremely tasty. This is definitely the type of restaurant to order starters, mains and dessert. Or alternatively, just order a bunch of plates and share it around the table.
