No. 4 De Grendel - Durbanville

Today I visited De Grendel wine farm in Durbanville. The wine tasting room has fantastic decor which is warm and welcoming however getting here is quite an unusual experience. Prepared to get your drivers license and tax disk scanned! Perhaps it is for the best.  De Grendel prides themselves on their Shiraz 2014. I am not a big fan of Shiraz however this was smoother than expected. On the nose you will pick up hints of Coriander, lavender, white pepper and some floral notes. On the palate it is well supported by oak undertones and sweet ripe tannins. R135 per bottle. All the waitrons are very attentive and their knowledge of wine is top class! R50 to taste five wines and R30 for three. This venue does have a fire place.I tried the De Grendel Pinot Noir Op die Berg 2013 at R165 per bottle. The Pinot Noir varietal is known for being translucent and subtle in flavour. It was served cold, recommended 17'C. On the palate you will notice hints of Cranberry, Cherries and cloves. If you enjoy white wine, this might be a good choice for you. Cold and refreshing. The views of Table Mountain at De Grendel Estate are really magnificent. The wine tasting centre offers seating inside or outside however if it is cold outside you will not miss any views because of the large windows. A great location to enjoy a glass of wine and cheese platter no matter what the weather! This cheese and preserves platter at De Grendel is to die for! Served with two rolls of freshly baked bread, it is perfect for two at R125.Other farms in the area are Durbanville Hills and Kleinroosboom. Not suitable for kids.Good for small or large groups (2-10 people).Great in Summer or Winter.
