Adam meets Eve at No. 62/800 - La Vierge, Hermanus

Wine farm 62 of 800 is La Vierge wines in the Hermanus Hemel en Aarde wine route. La Vierge means "The Virgin" in French and the pay off line is "Wines of Desire!" The decor just screams Adam and Eve - think pink, some nudity, snakes and apples! The Hemel en Aarde wine region is nestled up on a ridge which has an ideal cool climate due to the high altitude and cool Atlantic Ocean sea breezes.  This makes for some amazing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. There are quite a few farms along the Hemel en Aarde wine route. If you feel like making a weekend of it, there is great 4-star accommodation smack bang in the middle called High Season farm.  The accommodation facilities is slightly outdated but very clean and has fantastic linen, towels and daily service. BOOKINGS: Bookings are not necessary though are recommended. Here is my experience:

You definitely will not miss this farm on the Hemel en Aarde road because it is very clearly sign posted. There is sufficient parking up top on a gravel road (including even a Helipad!)You will walk over the cellar on an elevated platform as you enter the tasting room and restaurant. The farm welcomes visitors to witness the activity in the cellar at any given time.As you enter the tasting room, a quirky quote of the week, a fabulous pink couch and some awesome views of the valley give you the ultimate eye candy!I met up with Gerhard Smith, Winemaker, who has a passion for Pinot Noir - this wine region is perfect for it! Gerhard studied in Stellenbosch, gained his apprenticeship at Lanzerac and then gained further experience overseas for numerous years.The wine tasting area is relaxed and casual.You can sit by the fire place or outside. I started off on this fabulously fruity Sauvignon Blanc. Notice that the top of the bottle is a winding snake and there is an Apple symbol on the label. You should have a little giggle at the name plus the label is even full of glitter. This wine is R120 a bottle and has won a 2017 4 star platters award. Just fantastic!They also have a Chardonnay, Riesling and Rosé.The red wine selection has a Shiraz, 3 Pinot Noirs, a Sangiovese and Bordeaux.The La Vierge Noir was my favourite of the tasting. It is their flagship Pinot and is appropriately labelled to translate to "The black Virgin" or "Black Madonna".  My favourite part was looking at the crystals which formed on the base of the cork - just stunning!The colour was bright ruby and looked so elegant in the glass. Earthy forest floor on the nose which opens up into a beautifully spicy, berry sensation. It had a good balance of tannins and acidity which is typical to a good Pinot Noir.  R200 a bottle.This is the restaurant area. The locals speak highly of the restaurant staff and chef. Apparently you MUST try the BBQ ribs - hmmm!The view is not crap either :) I would book table 5 for sunset if I were you.The restuarant even has a cosy spot by the fire for some full bodied red wine or coffees and dessert.I enjoyed a glass of the Nymphomane 2015 Bordeaux. This wine would go very well with those ribs.Even some local cuties were joining in on the action.I had a great time and would definitely recommend this stop if you are in the Hemel en Aarde area.Here is a naked lady wearing only red shoes, lying on an ironing board lol.
