Tokara Rare Plant Fair and Open Garden Event

The Tokara Rare Plant Fair and Open Garden Event will take place this Autumn on Saturday, April 20, 2024. How exciting that this is one of the few times that Tokara opens its private farm gardens for public enjoyment. I can already smell the fresh air and the abundance of beauty that my eyes will devour!

Discover a Haven of Botanical Delights:

Step into the tented Farmyard, which for one day transforms into a vibrant hub showcasing diverse offerings from Rare Plant Fair vendors. Whether you're an avid gardener or simply appreciate the beauty of plants, you'll find indigenous and exotic specimens to captivate your senses. While exploring, indulge in delicious meaty and vegetarian fare, complemented by Tokara wine and olive products.

Stroll Through Enchanting Gardens:

Tokara's extensive farm gardens are a treasure trove waiting to be explored. Wander along rolling garden walks adorned with magnificent sculptures by local artists. Discover the dedicated oasis of indigenous plants, climb terraces in the picking garden, follow the path at the wetlands, and listen to the soothing babble of a mountain stream leading to a tranquil lily pond. Don't miss the enchanting cork oak forest walk, bordering a serene farm dam, where the majestic Dionysus sculpture overlooks the vast Big Lawn and the charming Boat House.

A Rare Gem: The Adamastor Moss Garden:

The Adamastor Moss Garden is a unique oasis near the Boat House. Over the past two years, this garden has become a breathtaking blend of local sandstone, granite, indigenous mosses, and fynbos. The latest addition of hand-chiselled Paarl granite pieces adds a kaleidoscope of textures and hues. Framed by hewn stone lintels, this garden exudes the serene beauty of a Japanese-inspired South African landscape.

Indulge in a Picnic Delight:

While exploring the gardens, take a break and enjoy a picnic on the Big Lawn. Pre-order Rare Fare Picnic Boxes from the Tokara Delicatessen, filled with sumptuous local delights. Adult boxes include a pre-selected bottle of Tokara wine, while children's boxes come with snack bites, juice, and a game. Remember to pre-order by emailing projects@tokara.com and collect your picnic at the Boat House on the day.
