The 40th Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild (CWG) Auction is just around the corner!

With the final selection of auction wines revealed, the excitement is building. This annual event is a highlight on the South African wine calendar, showcasing rare and unique wines produced in small quantities. Let’s check out what makes this year’s auction so special.

About the Cape Winemakers Guild

Established in 1982, the Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild is a prestigious collective of 41 of South Africa’s top winemakers. Membership is by invitation and recognises winemakers who consistently produce outstanding wines. The Guild’s annual auction, sponsored by Nedbank since 1996, showcases rare and unique wines that embody excellence in South African winemaking.

The Wines on Offer

This year, the auction features 48 wines: 20 white wines and 28 red wines. Bidders will have the opportunity to bid on 818 cases of white wine and 1,312 cases of red wine, available on both auction days.

  • Cederberg CWG Auction Chenin Blanc 2023: First Chenin Blanc for Cederberg.

  • Boschkloof CWG Epilogue Syrah 2022: First auction wine for Reenen Borman.

  • Le Riche Wines CWG Auction Cabernet Sauvignon 2020: First auction wine for Christo le Riche.

  • Survivor CWG Chenin Blanc 2023: First Chenin Blanc for Pierre Wahl under the Survivor Label.

  • Survivor CWG Pinotage 2022: First Pinotage for Pierre Wahl under the Survivor Label.

  • Rock of Eye CWG Auction Cabernet Sauvignon 2022: First wine from Coenie Snyman under the Rock of Eye Label.

  • Kershaw Wines Vertiginous Pinot Noir 2022: Richard Kershaw’s first Pinot Noir on auction.

  • Kanonkop CWG Paul Sauer 2021 and Kanonkop CWG Pinotage 2021: Last Kanonkop wines on auction.

How to Buy at the Auction

To join in on the auction fun, bidders need to create a bidder’s account.

Registration opens on Wednesday, 21 August 2024, on the Strauss & Co website.

The auction will also be hosted online, so you can bid in real-time via the Strauss & Co website, by phone, or through commission bids.

Attend the Auction

The auction is open to the public, offering a thrilling experience at the Lord Charles Hotel. Tickets are available on Quicket for both the Friday and Saturday sessions, as well as a special combo ticket for both days.
